Artists/Mali

Mali

Mali is home to one of West Africa’s great musical lineages, carried for centuries by jeli (griots) — hereditary musicians and oral historians of the Mande world — on instruments such as the kora, ngoni, and balafon. From the Wassoulou songs of the south to the desert blues of the north, Malian artists such as Toumani Diabaté and Ali Farka Touré have carried these traditions to audiences around the world.
