For Educators/Respond

Anchor Standard

Respond

Students listen deeply to music from another culture — perceiving, analyzing, and evaluating what they hear with growing sophistication and their own critical voice.

National Arts Anchor Standards

  • 1.Perceive and analyze artistic work.
  • 2.Interpret intent and meaning in artistic work.
  • 3.Apply criteria to evaluate artistic work.

Blueprint overview

The Respond Blueprint is for teachers who would like their students to experience the music of another culture through active listening and reflection. Students will perceive and analyze music from a selected tradition, interpret its intent and meaning, then evaluate it using their own unique criteria. Exchanges feature outstanding musical demonstrations from international teaching artists, listening examples and resources, and supplementary materials that teachers can integrate into their own lesson plans. This is the most accessible entry point into the Culture Connect program — no instruments or special equipment required.

Format

Students can connect remotely from home or share the same space with their classmates. No instruments or special equipment required.

Requirements

No minimum exchange requirement. Content covered is at the discretion of the classroom teacher.
